Both the Basic and Deluxe Travel Altar begins with a sturdy, hand-sanded, stained, & varnished wooden box with upgraded hardware. This provides a solid receptacle to house the sacred items of your spiritual practice.
The Minimalist Travel Altar
For those who want just the basics to conduct a simple puja ritual or ceremony according to path and inspiration, and who’s motto is “less is more”, the Minimalist Travel Altar edition will be just the right size to support your spiritual practice.
The Deluxe Travel Altar
Designed for those who love, honor, and celebrate the many different and colorful facets of a spiritual practice. Whether it’s the the adorable Ganesha statue, the Siva Lingam stone, or the crystals, if your motto is “the more the merrier”, the Travel Altar Deluxe will be the perfect version for you!
Anatomy of the Travel Altar by Rock Kandy
Each individual component of a Travel Altar by Rock Kandy has the specific purpose of elevating and purifying each of the senses: sight, smell, hearing, touch, and taste. Please read on, for a description of each.
When setting up a Travel Altar, it is best to place it in the North, Northeast, or East corner of the space. This is where the spiritual practices will generate the most powerful and auspicious energies and blessings.

The Gurus or Teachers
The vision of your beloved gurus or teachers on the altar elevates the sense of sight. After all, the guru is tasked with guiding us from darkness into light, from ignorance to wisdom, and from death to immortality.
Both versions of the Travel Altar come with a beautiful, high quality, compact double frame with choice of two gurus or teachers, according to path or lineage.
At Rock Kandy, we honor and celebrate the many paths leading to the One – so there is a wide range of well known saints, sages, gurus, and mystics to choose from.
The Bell
The Bell elevates the sense of hearing. The subtle tinkle of the bell is considered very auspicious, welcoming divinity and dispelling evil and negative energies. The bell informs the deity of the devotee’s arrival. The sound of the bell disengages the mind from the mundane, making it more receptive to the subtle energies.
Each version of the Travel Altar includes a miniature, imported brass bell with which to summon the subtle Divine energies.
The Prasad
Prasad, or Blessed Food, is the component of this practice that elevates the sense of taste.
When performing a pooja ritual, it is customary to have some fresh or dried fruit, nuts, or a lovingly crafted treat to use as part of the spiritual practice.
Place the food item in the small bowl provided, and place near the altar as the ceremony is conducted. This elevates the food to Prasad, blessed food which will be infused with the energies generated by the puja ritual. After the ceremony is completed, enjoy the Prasad with love and mindful gratitude.
The Incense
Burning incense elevates the sense of smell. It is seen as a way of expressing gratitude toward deity, guru, and God. It purifies the spiritual space, clearing out negative energies.
Included with both versions of the Travel Altars is a box of imported Vedic incense cones, along with a lotus flower incense holder. This unique incense holder is adaptable to either stick or cone incense, simply by reversing the inner layer of petals.
The Candle
The Candle elevates the sense of sight. Light has always been the symbol of enlightenment, hope, prosperity, and intuitive wisdom. Lighting a candle invokes blessings and the presence of divine beings from the angelic realm. Lighting a candle is symbolic of moving from darkness into Light.

The Altar Cloth
A beautiful Altar Cloth elevates the sense of sight. In addition, it adds to your spiritual practice by denoting the space for the altar, providing a clean area to place your sacred items upon.

The Travel Altar Deluxe includes a miniature, imported, brass Ganesha statue. Ganesha not only elevates the sense of sight, He also infuses your entire spiritual practice with wisdom and power, removing obstacles to clear the way.
One should always invoke Ganesha’s blessings at the start of any journey, venture, or spiritual practice. He is the bringer of success, prosperity, and good luck.
Ganesha removes obstacles from a dharmic path. However, if something is not meant for you – Ganesha has the power to place obstacles to prevent that particular path. Especially while traveling, it is important to tune into Ganesha’s infinite wisdom, and practice surrender to what is or isn’t meant to be.
Shiva Lingam Stone
The Shiva Lingam Stone brings auspiciousness to your spiritual practice, elevating the senses of sight and touch.
The Shiva Lingam Stone, associated with Lord Shiva, is considered a sacred stone. It is only found deep within the Narmada River in Western India, one of India’s holiest of sites. It is believed that Goddess Parvati hand-shaped a Shiva Lingam out of the sand, to represent both the Divine Masculine and Divine Feminine energies.
It’s distinctive egg-shape represents the Cosmic Egg from which all life has sprung.
Deity Art
The Travel Altar Deluxe is customizable with your choice of two miniature laminated pictures of deities, saints, or religious symbols. This further elevates the sense of sight, providing inspirational images that invoke love, devotion, and joy.
Pictured is Saraswati, Hindu Goddess of knowledge, creativity, and music. Saraswati is known to bring order out of chaos and has a calming, centering personality.
Hand-Selected Crystals
The Deluxe Travel Altar also includes hand selected Crystals, further elevating the sense of sight, along with the sense of touch.
Not only are crystals beautiful, they also have powerful healing benefits to the astral body, especially when used in conjunction with a mindful spiritual practice.
When using an altar, it is important to honor Mother Earth and the endless gifts She bestows upon us. Items such as flowers or fruit are often used. Crystals are also a beautiful way to express this sentiment, and are a convenient option when traveling.
Crystals can be held in the palm while meditating, or if practicing japa meditation, in the opposite palm. The crystals will work their magic, and can leave profound healing and transformation in their wake.
